American voters will have a choice between the lesser of two evils yet again or better yet the equal of two evils in the Presidential election of 2008.

It is the equivalent of choosing mint chocolate chip over strawberry ice cream. Sure they taste different, but the end result is the same. You will still get fat. Or in the case of the election you will still get evil. Like ice cream, evil comes in many flavors. This year your featured flavors are fascism and socialism.

On the Democratic side you have the choice of two flavors: light vanilla socialism or french vanilla socialism. On the Republican side your only choice is a single scoop of soft serve fascism. Unfortunately, the political reality is that an independent or third party flavor will likely melt away into non-relevance unless enough of us truly want change.

First we’ll taste test the flavor of soft serve fascism that John McCain provides. Since fascism is misconstrued at times, a definition is in order. Fascism is (according to wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fascism ) “an authoritarian political ideology (generally tied to a mass movement) that considers the individual subordinate to the interests of the state, party or society as a whole.”

McCain has famously stated that we could be in Iraq for “100 years or more.” He also said that there would be “more wars” and we’ll just have to get used to it. Listening to any of his victory or stump speeches with the definition of fascism in mind will leave you nodding your head at the connection. Especially when he speaks about the Iraq war or the “war on terror”. Sure he sometimes talks about liberty and keeping America free, but in the next breath he advocates warrant-less wiretaps. For some reason the media perpetuates his maverick status. Maybe they will wake up to the truth of his “wherever the wind blows” policies someday.

He continually states he is against reinstating the draft, but he has been inconsistent with many of his statements and actions in the past. He has, rather eloquently, come out against the waterboarding interrogation tactic. Yet he voted to allow it. When he pushes for a large increase in troops for the war on terror, I start to wonder where he expects to get those troops without drafting them. It is not a stretch to expect him to change his tune again.

The roll towards soft fascism with President Bush over the last 8 years will likely be continued if somehow John McCain were to become the next commander-in-chief. It wouldn’t surprise me to hear the crowd at McCain rallies chant, “4 more years, 4 more years.”

Then we have the Democratic, or socialisthttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socialist
flavors of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. Clinton is the more moderate light flavor, while Obama is your heavy flavored socialist. Of course, they call it progressive, but socialism is the proper term.

Taking money from the rich and distributing it to the poor by the force of the government is advocated by both Obama and Clinton. This practice is already being done today. Clinton and Obama say that the rich don’t pay their fair share. The top 25% income earners pay 85% of the entire federal income tax. It certainly does seem unfair. In reality, they want to make it even more unfair by forcing the “rich” to pay an even higher percentage.

Obama is especially fond of increasing taxes and injecting government solutions to all that ails us. He has talked about eliminating the cap on Social Security taxes. Currently (in 2007), the cap for Social Security is set at $97,500.00. It rises with inflation each year. Any income earned beyond that amount is not subject to the tax. The tax rate is 6.2%, not including the required employer matching. Eliminating the cap is a significant tax increase for anyone making more than the capped amount. These days, someone making over $97K can hardly be considered rich. Perhaps upper middle class, but certainly not rich.

As for Hillary Clinton, it is difficult to really know where she stands on many issues, but she continually advocates for taxing the rich and repealing the Bush tax cuts. She and Obama both advocate government run health care so everyone can be covered.

The best method of figuring out the effect of government run health care is to compare it to something the government is already heavily involved in: education. The federal Department of Education was created in 1980. Since then America has faltered considerably in educating our children when compared with the rest of the world. Good teachers are more scarce and underpaid. It is not a stretch to believe that government run health care will have similar results. Good doctors will be hard to find. They will be underpaid. The quality of care will deteriorate. Demand will increase dramatically.

This is yet another method of wealth distribution. The government will collect higher taxes (from the rich) to pay for substandard health care for everyone. I guess the question becomes: Is poor health care for everyone better than no health care for some?

At least with education we can change the system and properly educate those left behind. There are no second chances when poor health care causes unnecessary deaths.

When your choice is between socialism and fascism which will you choose? Do you not accept those choices? Will you vote for a yet unknown independent or third party candidate? Will you not vote at all? For me, if the elections were held today, I’d write in Ron Paul. Perhaps another candidate will materialize prior to the election later this year to win my vote.

This much I know. I will not choose between the lesser of two evils. Perhaps, that makes me crazy. Perhaps it makes me a sure loser in the eyes of some. I really don’t care. What I do care about is my family, my country, myself, and my fellow Americans. I will vote for the principles of the Constitution. I will vote for the person that takes the oath of office seriously. I suggest you do so as well.
